These Greek Chicken Gyros are packed with tender, marinated chicken, topped with creamy tzatziki sauce, and served in warm pita bread with fresh veggies and feta. It’s a Mediterranean-inspired meal that’s both fresh and flavorful.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Marinade:

  • 1 lb chicken breast, thinly sliced

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

  • ½ cucumber, grated and drained

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (or mint)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Gyros:

  • 4 pita bread rounds

  • ½ cup chopped tomatoes

  • ½ cup sliced red onions

  • ½ cup chopped cucumber

  • ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese

  • ¼ cup chopped parsley

Instructions

  • Prepare the chicken marinade:
In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced chicken and toss until it’s well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to marinate.

  • Make the tzatziki sauce:
In a small bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber (make sure it’s well-drained to avoid excess water), minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, chopped dill (or mint), and salt and pepper to taste. Stir until smooth and set aside.

  • Cook the chicken:
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated chicken for about 6-8 minutes, or until fully cooked and browned, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.

  • Assemble the gyros:
Warm the pita bread rounds in a dry skillet or microwave. Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each pita. Add the cooked chicken, then top with chopped tomatoes, sliced red onions, chopped cucumber, crumbled feta cheese, and chopped parsley.

Notes

  • You can also grill the chicken for extra flavor.

  • If you don’t have pita, you can use flatbreads or wraps as a substitute.

  • Feel free to add or remove veggies based on your preferences.
