Ingredients

Scale

For the Teriyaki Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup water, divided
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated or minced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

For the Stir Fry:

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Instructions for the Teriyaki Sauce:

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 3/4 cup water, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, and brown sugar.
  2. Stir to combine and bring to a low boil.
  3. In a separate small bowl, whisk 1/4 cup water and cornstarch together until dissolved.
  4. Slowly stir in the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan and allow it to thicken.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the orange zest. Set aside.

Instructions for the Stir Fry:

  1. Add sesame oil to a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes, until softened.
  3. Add ground turkey and cook for 7-10 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks, until fully cooked through.
  4. Add broccoli florets and shredded carrots, cooking for another 3-5 minutes until heated through and tender.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the prepared teriyaki sauce.
  6. Let it simmer for a few minutes to allow the sauce to coat the turkey and vegetables.
  7. Serve the stir fry over rice or as desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey with ground chicken, pork, or beef (if using beef, be sure to drain excess grease).
  • For extra spice, add cayenne pepper flakes or sriracha.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like snow peas, bell peppers, or baby corn.
  • If the teriyaki sauce is too thick, add a little water to thin it out.
  • For extra saucy stir fry, double the teriyaki sauce recipe.
