Indulge in the rich, decadent flavors of Chocolate Pudding Cake! This easy-to-make dessert features a warm, gooey chocolate pudding at the bottom, topped with a light, cake-like layer. Every bite is a perfect balance of soft cake and creamy chocolate sauce, making it the ultimate comfort dessert for chocolate lovers. It’s perfect for a dinner party, cozy night in, or whenever you’re craving something sweet and comforting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup melted butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)

  • 1 cup hot water

  • Optional: Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish.

  • Make the dry mixture: In a large bowl, mix the granulated sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

  • Add wet ingredients: Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and combined.

  • Pour the batter: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

  • Add brown sugar: Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter.

  • Add hot water: Pour the hot water over the mixture (don’t stir). It will look a bit strange, but that’s how it creates the pudding layer.

  • Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is set and the cake looks slightly cracked. The pudding will be at the bottom.

  • Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving. Spoon the warm pudding cake into bowls and top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

Make it ahead: You can prepare the batter and let it sit in the fridge for a few hours before baking.

Chocolate variation: Try using dark chocolate cocoa powder or add chocolate chips to the batter for an extra rich flavor.

Serving tip: Serve immediately after baking while it’s warm to enjoy the gooey pudding layer.
