Description

Indulge in these rich and creamy homemade chocolate truffles—perfect for gifting or satisfying your sweet tooth. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create gourmet chocolates that melt in your mouth. Whether coated in cocoa powder, nuts, or sprinkles, these truffles are guaranteed to impress!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz dark chocolate (finely chopped)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cocoa powder (for rolling)
  • Chopped nuts (optional, for coating)
  • Sprinkles (optional, for coating)
  • Sea salt (optional, for a savory touch)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Ganache:
    • Place the chopped dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
    • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer (not boil).
    • Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let sit for 2-3 minutes. Stir until smooth and fully combined.
    • Add the butter and vanilla extract to the mixture, stirring until the butter is melted and the ganache is glossy.
  • Chill the Ganache:
    • Allow the ganache to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Then, cover and place in the fridge for 1-2 hours or until firm enough to scoop.
  • Shape the Truffles:
    • Once the ganache is firm, use a spoon or melon baller to scoop small portions of ganache. Roll them between your hands to form smooth balls.
    • If the ganache gets too soft, refrigerate for 10-15 minutes to firm up before rolling.
  • Coat the Truffles:
    • Roll each truffle in your choice of cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or sprinkles to coat them completely. Optionally, sprinkle a little sea salt on top for a savory touch.
  • Store and Serve:
    • Store the truffles in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Bring to room temperature before serving for the best texture.

Notes

  • You can use any type of chocolate you like (milk, dark, or white) for the ganache, depending on your preference.
  • For flavor variations, try adding a few drops of essential oils (like orange, mint, or lavender) to the ganache before refrigerating.
  • Be careful not to overheat the cream when heating it, as it may curdle or burn.
