Description

This creamy and flavorful Chicken Makhani (Butter Chicken) is a classic Indian dish made with marinated chicken cooked in a rich, spiced tomato-based sauce. It’s a delicious, comforting dish that pairs perfectly with naan or rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, garam masala, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken pieces and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and ginger, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the tomato puree and simmer for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.
  5. Pour in the heavy cream and continue simmering for an additional 10 minutes, until the sauce thickens and the chicken is cooked through.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the chicken makhani hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use ghee instead of butter.
  • Adjust the level of cayenne pepper to suit your spice preference.
  • Serve with basmati rice or naan for a complete meal.
