Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (25 oz) package refrigerated cheese ravioli (fresh or frozen)
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
- 2 cups fresh spinach, roughly chopped
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for sautéing)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of spice)
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the ravioli: If using frozen ravioli, cook it according to the package instructions. If using fresh ravioli, you can skip this step. Drain and set aside.
- Sauté the spinach: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped spinach and cook for about 2-3 minutes until wilted. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the bake: In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Layer half of the cooked ravioli on top of the sauce. Add half of the sautéed spinach, then sprinkle with 1 cup of shredded mozzarella and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese. Repeat with another layer of marinara sauce, ravioli, spinach, and the remaining cheeses.
- Season: Sprinkle garlic powder, dried basil, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) over the top.
- Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- Feel free to substitute the cheese ravioli with any type of ravioli you prefer, such as spinach or mushroom ravioli.
- If you like a creamy version, you can add a layer of ricotta cheese or a few tablespoons of heavy cream to the marinara sauce.
- You can make this dish ahead of time and refrigerate it. Just cover the assembled dish with foil and bake as directed, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time if it’s coming from the fridge.
- This recipe is easily customizable—add some cooked Italian sausage or chicken for extra protein, or swap the spinach for other greens like kale or arugula.
