A rich and indulgent side dish, these creamy scalloped potatoes are layered with gooey Gruyere cheese and sweet caramelized onions, making them a perfect addition to any dinner table.

- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 lbs Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups Gruyere cheese, shredded
- 2 cups heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Season with salt and pepper, then sprinkle half of the caramelized onions and half of the shredded Gruyere cheese. Repeat with remaining potatoes, onions, and cheese.
- Pour heavy cream over the potato mixture, ensuring the cream is evenly distributed.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
- For a more intense flavor, use aged Gruyere cheese.
- You can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter version.
- If you prefer a crunchier top, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes after baking.
