Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Red and green food coloring
Instructions
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add Egg and Vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture, beating until well combined.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until the dough forms.
- Color the Dough: Divide the dough into two halves. Tint one half red and the other half green using food coloring.
- Roll the Dough: Roll out each colored dough into a thin rectangle on a piece of parchment paper or wax paper.
- Form the Swirl: Place the red dough on top of the green dough. Gently roll them together to form a log or cylinder.
- Slice and Bake: Slice the dough into 1/4-inch thick cookies and arrange them on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden.
- Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Be sure to let the dough chill slightly if it’s too soft to roll easily.
