  • Author: Catalina
  • Total Time: 24 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 1x

Description

Bacalhau à Brás is a traditional Portuguese dish that brings together salted cod, crispy potatoes, scrambled eggs, and caramelized onions for a comforting and flavorful meal. It’s perfect for family gatherings or a special dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb salted cod
  • 4 large potatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Soak the salted cod in water for 24 hours, changing the water every 6 hours to remove excess salt.
  • After soaking, boil the cod for 5 minutes, then drain and flake the cod into small pieces.
  • Peel and grate the potatoes, then fry them in hot oil until golden brown and crispy.
  • In a large skillet, sauté the onions in olive oil until translucent and soft.
  • Add the flaked cod and the fried potatoes to the skillet with the onions, mixing well.
  • Beat the eggs in a bowl and pour them over the cod and potato mixture. Stir continuously until the eggs are cooked and scrambled into the dish.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste, then garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Bacalhau à Brás can be served with a side of olives or a simple salad.
  • You can use pre-soaked cod if you’re short on time, though soaking the salted cod yourself gives the best results.
  • Adjust the level of seasoning depending on the saltiness of the cod.
  • Prep Time: 24 hours (soaking the cod)
  • Cook Time: 30 minutes
